About

I am Sonyanga Mike Weblen, an experienced Communications and Advocacy Specialist, Filmmaker, and Content Creator, driven by a passion for driving positive change in society. Equipped with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication Electronic Media from Daystar University and having successfully completed my Master’s degree in Media and Globalisation from Nottingham Trent University, my focus remains steadfast in crafting impactful content through videography, photography, and storytelling. Hailing from a patriarchal society where injustices such as female genital mutilation persist, I actively engage as a key member of the Maasai Cricket Warriors and Founder of Maasai Cricket Ladies. Through the unifying power of cricket, my aim is to combat such malpractices while empowering girls and women, earning prestigious awards from the International Cricket Council (ICC) for our transformative societal contributions.

Throughout my career, I’ve embraced diverse roles, honing my skills in impact story creation, video editing, and photography. Whether as a Visual Communications Officer for Too Young to Wed or as a Communications Officer for Zinduka ev, my contributions in report writing and social media management have made significant impacts. Notably, as a Producer for the End FGM Daily Live Show, I’ve orchestrated the program’s coordination and managed its social media presence, amplifying awareness on female genital mutilation. Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite and other industry tools, I have created content for social media and online platforms, including masterclasses for the Global Media Campaign to End Female Genital Mutilation. With a passion for environmental conservation, I have collaborated with award-winning documentary filmmakers on climate change projects. As a Mandela Washington Fellow, I’ve undergone a six-week Leadership in Civic Engagement program at Indiana University, further enhancing my skills in community leadership and networking. Fluent in English, Swahili, Maasai, and Samburu, I enjoy volleyball, cricket, and adventure during my leisure time. Driven by my commitment to effecting positive change, I am now ready to contribute my expertise to organisations striving for impactful communications, media, and advocacy initiatives.
